  • What are Mobile Payments?

    A mobile wallet is an app on a mobile device that stores credit or debit card payment information, allowing you to use the device to make payments. There are a variety of wallet providers, five of which are available to our members. Although mobile wallets are not universally accepted, the number of merchants accepting them continues to grow rapidly.

  • Benefits of using Mobile Wallet and Payments

  • They are fast. In most cases you simply tap your phone or an app and enter your passcode or use your fingerprint to authenticate the transactions. No need to take your card out of your wallet.
  • They are convenient. You can choose to leave your cash and physical cards at home and just carry your phone.
  • They are secure. Most mobile payments are tokenized, which means they do not store or transmit card information. A token is used instead of your actual card information. The token and a one-time security code are used to process the transaction. If a merchant you have paid is hacked, your actual card information does not get compromised. Additionally, your mobile payment information is protected by the security of the mobile device.
  • Acceptance is growing. As consumers demand more convenient payment options, merchants are adding or expanding acceptance, which means there will be ever increasing opportunities to use mobile payments. Some merchants only accept certain mobile payments, but that is why we now offer 5 options to our members.
  • Continue to earn rewards. Many mobile payment options allow you the ability to continue to use rewards programs at your favorite retailers.

    Visa® Checkout

    WSSC FCU also provides our members access to Visa® Checkout, which is an online payment platform, similar to PayPal, that allows you to enter your card information once and then use it to shop online and within retailer apps.
